January 28, 2026 – Death of J.L. Chanal – former Dean and founder of the Health Engineering program
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Jean-Louis Chanal, former Dean of the School of Pharmacy and founder of the Health Engineering program.
In September 1991, as part of the creation of the University Professional Institutes (IUP)—designed to bridge the gap between academia and the professional world—Jean-Louis Chanal founded the IUP in Health Engineering from the ground up. A visionary and resolutely forward-looking, he involved the industrial sector—particularly the pharmaceutical industry—in the development of this innovative program from the very beginning.
Over the years, he has continuously developed, structured, and refined this program (see “History”), which today stands as a benchmark in the field of health engineering education. His dedication, strategic vision, and compassion have left a lasting impact on several generations of students and faculty.
